A Week With The Orlando Solar Bears

After wearing custom chest and arms from other vendors throughout my playing career, the Warrior G2 Pro Chest and Arm is by far one of the most comfortable and efficient pieces of equipment I have worn. The 2015-16 season was my first season as a pro and I spent it within the Toronto Maple Leafs organization. The majority of my playing time was with the Orlando Solar Bears in the ECHL. My equipment manager (Orlando) had a demo of the G2 Pro chest pad in the room one day and he asked me to try it. When I first looked at it I was reluctant to try it. It looked like a rebound kicking machine with all of the hard material around the arms and elbow hinge. However, I switched to the G2 Pro immediately after just one practice.

The design makes movements smoother and does not inhibit my range of motion.  I was totally surprised with the functionality of the pad. The elbow hinge design completely softens that area when hit with a puck. The plastic protective material removes all “stingers” from the forearm region. Not long into my first skate in the pad I noticed a big improvement in my mobility and puck retention. The shoulder wings were extremely light weight and flexible. The center piece of the pad was very durable and covered the entire portion of my lower abdomen and also provided full rib wrap coverage.

In summary, the Warrior G2 Pro Chest and Arm was a new style of pro level pad to me that truly improved my mobility and puck control while still being able to provide maximum protection.

  1. I totally agree. I too was skeptical of rebound control off of the arms when I first saw the G2 Pro, but that hasn’t been an issue at all. The unit is super mobile and protective as well. It’s the best chest guard I’ve ever used, hands down.
